What your day could look like
As Senior Medical Officer, you'll be central to safe, timely care for Oakey patients—linking ED, ward, clinics and outreach. From leading clinical decisions to partnering with nurses and allied health, you'll improve pathways and outcomes across our service.
Every day, you'll contribute by:
- Delivering expert generalist and emergency care—making timely, evidence‑based decisions that reduce transfers and improve patient flow.
- Leading and mentoring the local team—lifting capability through teaching, supervision and constructive feedback.
- Driving safety and quality—participating in audit, peer review and service improvement to strengthen outcomes.
- Building community connections through outreach and prevention—closing care gaps for rural and First Nations patients.
Let's Talk About You
You bring equal measures of capability and care. Calm under pressure, you communicate with clarity, show dignity in every interaction, and collaborate with courage to do what's right for patients. You're proud to step into the moments that matter—stabilising in ED, planning safe transfers, and championing better ways of working.
Here's what will help you thrive in this role:
- Current AHPRA medical registration.
- Fellowship of ACRRM or RACGP, or enrolment in an accredited training program.
- Broad rural generalist and emergency skills; comfortable with on‑call and a 24/7 roster.
You'll stand out if you bring advanced emergency credentials (e.g., EM certificates, point‑of‑care ultrasound or rural procedural skills) and/or experience leading service improvement, research or community outreach.
Above all, you'll live our values: Compassion, Integrity, Dignity, Innovation and Courage—so every patient encounter counts.
