What your day could look like
As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer, you'll support patients and families to feel culturally safe, informed, and respected throughout their care. Working closely with clinical teams, you'll strengthen communication and advocacy to improve health experiences and outcomes.
Every day, you'll contribute by:
- Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families to navigate care with confidence
- Advocating for patient needs and strengthening understanding across multidisciplinary teams
- Contributing to care coordination, discharge planning, and referrals that support continuity of care
- Sharing cultural knowledge that promotes respectful, culturally responsive practice

You bring empathy, cultural knowledge, and quiet strength to your work. You're comfortable standing alongside patients, helping their voices be heard, and supporting teams to deliver care with dignity and respect. You take pride in building trust between community and health services and are motivated by seeing real, positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Here's what will help you thrive in this role:
- Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
- A Certificate IV, Diploma, or higher qualification in health, community, or human services
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build respectful relationships
- Experience supporting individuals or families in health or community settings
You'll stand out if you bring experience in hospital environments or cultural education. Most importantly, you're committed to making a meaningful difference and living the values of compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation, and courage.
