Principal Project Officer
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Project Officer to join the Better Hospital Flows (BHF) project. The Queensland Government is investing in improved hospital services through real-time data and targeted technology upgrades under the Health Plan Commitment. A key priority action is Better Hospital Flows (GEC124), which focuses on modernising digital systems to improve hospital workflows, patient flow and visibility of bed availability across the state.
About this role
The role:
Reporting to the Program Director of Better Hospital Flows (BHF) project, the role is responsible to help deliver statewide insights that support clinicians and health services to plan, coordinate, and improve care for patients across Queensland.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Deliver specialised IM/ICT work by planning, managing and ensuring solutions meet customer needs and are sustainable across the enterprise.
- Monitoring resources and expenditure to ensure alignment with agreed work package budgets and project forecasts.
- Actively supporting risk and issue management by identifying, assessing, documenting, and escalating risks and issues as required, while also contributing to the development of mitigation strategies.
- Monitor project performance and report progress against agreed work packages and schedules.
- Apply appropriate project management methods consistent with Queensland Health policy.
- Build and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, expectation management, feedback and lessons learned.
Is this opportunity for you?
To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in the provision of support to large scale, complex IM/ICT programs and projects; specifically, in planning, initiation, stakeholder management and communication, reporting, budgeting, financial and risk management, and project closure.
Your well-developed negotiation and communication skills will enable you to effectively negotiate and liaise with both internal and external stakeholders regarding the coordination of outputs of multiple specialist teams to deliver the solution as well as the preparation of written communication materials and service agreements.
You will demonstrate extensive experience in applying recognised project and program management methodologies — including Agile, PRINCE2 and related frameworks — along with the ability to provide expert guidance on selecting and using the most appropriate project management techniques for a given context.
You will be confident in running meetings and facilitating discussions, highly organised and able to manage competing priorities, and have strong problem‑solving skills and initiative.
