Solution Architect
The Digital Capital Program (DCP) is seeking two Solution Architects to lead the Major Medical Equipment (MME) solution design process to support the delivery of the Hospital Rescue Plan. You will be responsible for leading the digital designs process for MME, engaging with equipment vendors, Hospital & Health Service (HHS) clinical representatives, other Queensland Health biomedical equipment experts and existing system owners. It is expected this role will develop repeatable design patterns for MME and biomedical systems, provide digital integration oversight between clinical, ICT and infrastructure workstreams and ensure the consistent application of solution architecture principles across projects.
About this role
The role:
Queensland Health is currently undertaking one of the largest health infrastructure programs ever seen in Australia. The largest of these, the Hospital Rescue Plan (HRP) is a visionary program designed to bring service and capabilities to more Queenslanders than ever before. The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver 3 new hospitals, a new Queensland Cancer Centre, and the expansion of 11 existing hospitals resulting in 2,600 additional beds across Queensland.
The Solution Architect will act as the technical Subject Matter Expert for MME and biomedical systems, by leading the design and commissioning activities required to support delivery of the Hospital Rescue Plan projects including:
- Develop repeatable design patterns for Major Medical Equipment and Biomedical Systems
- Provide integration oversight between clinical, ICT and infrastructure workstreams
- Ensure the consistent application of solution architecture principles across projects
- Contribute to the testing and commissioning of MME and Biomedical Systems
- Identify and assess the implications of applicable Queensland Health, whole-of-government and industry related policies, standards and guides that impact architectural decision-making and ensure these are appropriately reflected in the solution architecture.
- Undertake an impact analysis on major architectural options and assess associated risks and issues, ensuring that the solution architecture balances function, service, quality and system management requirements.
- Provide expert advice and communicate solution alternatives, architectural risks, issues and resulting implications.
The role will work collaboratively with the broader Digital Capital Program team, HHS Digital teams, eHealth Queensland teams Biomedical Technology Solutions, construction partners and other key stakeholders to ensure infrastructure solutions are fit-for-purpose, compliant with enterprise standards and capable of supporting future clinical and operational service delivery.

Within the context of the key responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Proven expertise in the development of solution and infrastructure architecture for complex systems medical equipment inclusive of all architectural domains and ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrable and proven experience in a complex hospital and health service environment.
- Experience in working in large hospital construction environments with complex stakeholder and vendor relationships.
- Proven expertise in applying infrastructure architecture principles, practices and processes within enterprise architecture, ICT investment and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities to identify, analyse and resolve technology challenges in response to business and ICT requirements.
- Ability to establish and influence positive, strategic partnerships and collaborative working relationships with key senior executive stakeholders and key decision makers both internal and external to Queensland Health (SFIA: RLMT – Stakeholder Relationship Management Level 6).
- Demonstrated experience providing infrastructure architecture leadership, technical assurance and governance within large-scale ICT-enabled infrastructure, health, construction or capital delivery programs
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Extensive knowledge in both healthcare and construction sectors
- Professional and tertiary level qualifications in ICT, system engineering and solution architecture or similar
