About SMHRU
The SMHRU unit offers mental health rehabilitation services for individuals needing extended inpatient care in a secure environment. Our focus is on autonomy, self-determination, and working collaboratively towards independent living. All consumers are over 18 years of age.

About Your New Role
Are you passionate about advocating for mental health services and promoting respectful inclusion? A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Peer Coordinator - Identified Mental Health Lived Experience (Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit) to join our team. Our new facility aims to provide world-class, compassionate, person-centered mental health care that supports the recovery of consumers, families, and carers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a lived experience team
- Articulate consumer/carer needs to service managers and clinical providers
- Maintain and grow partnerships with a range of stakeholders
- Develop and deliver recovery-oriented training and education
Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with lived experience of mental illness, service use and recovery (identifies as a consumer)
- Previous experience working within a public mental health service or the community sector in a Peer Worker or Lived Experience role is essential
- While not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Certificate IV in Mental Health and similar qualifications or higher would be well regarded
- Driver Licence
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent full time
- Base salary ranging from $108 735 - $118 307 per annum
