Clinical Coding Auditor
The primary focus of this role is to assign accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through analysis of clinical documentation
About this role
The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Clinical Coding Auditor to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Actively participate in the Gold Coast Health's Clinical Coding education, evaluation and auditing program
- Abstract relevant information from the patient record and all available clinical information systems
- Identify data discrepancies between the clinical information systems (such as ieMR or HBCIS) and provide feedback through appropriate channels
- Assign accurate International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) and Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) codes and perform Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) grouping according to Australian Coding Standards
- Utilise appropriate resources and liaise with the Clinical Coding Educator to clarify information as required, including correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Completion of a Diploma in Clinical Coding and a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Coding, or alternatively a Tertiary Health Information Management related Bachelor
- While not mandatory, a minimum of two (2) years' clinical coding experience in a hospital and healthcare setting, tertiary level is highly desirable, as well as evidence of coding and auditing proficiency within a healthcare facility
- While not mandatory, a Specialist Certificate in Auditing (Clinical Coding) would be well regarded
- Ability to assign accurate morbidity and procedural classifications to episodes of care in accordance with ICD-10-AM (current edition preferred), ACHI and Australian Coding Standards.
- High level computer skills in a range of systems, including relevant eHealth, clinical information systems and other software applications
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

- Permanent full time
- Base salary ranging from $116 562 - $126 134 per annum
