Staff Specialist - Psychiatrist (Medical Director, Adult and Older Person Inpatient)

About the role

The Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist provides clinical specialist psychiatry support to the Adult and Older Person Inpatient (AOPI) service, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.

The Medical Director provides clinical care to patients and clinically manages on a day-to-day basis the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the delivery of appropriate patient care. In addition, the role provides professional leadership to the department and training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members. The position will have a clinical component of 0.4 full time equivalent (FTE).

Clinical and operational leaders within Mental Health and Specialist Services (MHSS) work within a strong partnership model. The Medical Director of AOPI will work in partnership with the Service Director of AOPI to lead clinical governance and provide oversight of the operational and financial governance of the service line.

Requirements for the role

• Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
• Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
• Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
• MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
• Certified copies of relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
• Strong clinical and teaching experience in Psychiatry.
• The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for Mental Health and Specialist Services (MHSS).
• Senior Staff Specialists or Staff Specialists report operationally to the Medical Director of their work unit and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.
• The Medical Director reports operationally to the Clinical Director of MHSS and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer.

• Permanent full time Staff Specialist with Temporary full time Medical Director component
• Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $266,839 - $282,912 p.a
• Staff Specialist: Base salary from $223,136 - $259,187 p.a
