About this role

About the role
Provide culturally sensitive social, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a mental illness, who are engaged with the Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service, including the Court Liaison Service, Community Forensic Outreach Service, Queensland Fixated Threat Assessment Centre and the Mental Health Liaison Service to inform treatment planning, interventions and care. The role includes advice as part of the multidisciplinary team, on aspects of assessment, treatment and recovery, and direct care co-ordination and support. The role also promotes and participates in community development that strengthens and builds the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to support mental health and social emotional wellbeing.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- High level knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols, and history, as well as demonstrated experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Establish working relationships with staff in mental health services, court and prison services in South-East Queensland.
- Provide a liaison service between forensic mental health services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers engaged with the services provided by the Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service.
- Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, raise awareness of and provide cultural information to members of the team by contributing to the understanding of individual cases by facilitating culturally appropriate assessment and assisting with interpretation of information from a cultural perspective.
- Attend interviews with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers to provide relevant cultural support and collateral into medicolegal assessments, mental health assessments and comprehensive assessments of risk.
