With permanent funding through the Queensland Health Palliative Care Reform Program, we’re building a strong, modern regional service that places people, collaboration and compassion at its heart. We’re seeking consultant doctors who value teamwork, communication and excellence in care to join our team.
Based in Rockhampton, you’ll work across community and hospital settings, partner with Fitzroy Community Hospice, and help shape a unified hub-and-spoke model linking Gladstone, Emerald and the Capricorn Coast. Join us and help define the future of palliative care in Central Queensland.

Palliative Care is expanding in Central Queensland! We are excited to be restructuring and revitalising the Palliative Care service across Central Queensland, Australia. With the leadership of highly experienced, Palliative Care Consultant, Dr Christian Robold, we are transforming our service structure and increasing staffing levels. Our goal is to build a strong, regional service that embraces a modern, patient-centred approach to Palliative Care.
About the role:
As a Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist/Senior Medical Officer in our Palliative Care team, you'll provide compassionate and holistic care to patients with life-limiting illnesses across hospital and community settings. You'll work collaboratively with our Senior Consultant, Nurse Practitioners and multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality symptom management, support patients and families in complex decision-making and shape palliative care services in Central Queensland. About you:
- MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- For Staff Specialist appointments: Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in Palliative Medicine with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA). This will require Fellowship of the Australian Chapter of Palliative Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FAChPM – RACP). Applicants with extensive experience in palliative medicine may also be considered.
- For Senior Medical Officer appointments: Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in General Practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA). This will require Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Australia College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) with extensive experience in palliative medicine. While not mandatory, it will be highly regarded to have Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine.
- Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program with the appropriate bodies is mandatory.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $543,581 p.a. is comprised of:
- A salary rate between $186,876 - $271,430 p.a. (L25-L27, L18-L24, L13-L25, L13-L14)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
