About this role
New closing date - now closing 28 August 2026
There's something special about providing obstetrics care in a remote community.
Here, you're not just another clinician moving through a system, you become part of the story of families, babies and community.
You'll work alongside a passionate multidisciplinary team supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and postnatal care in a way that is culturally respectful, relationship-focused and genuinely valued by community.
🩺 About the role
This is an opportunity for a Rural Generalist with Obstetrics to join the Weipa medical team and enjoy a unique rural maternity service where your skills make a real and visible contribution every single day. Working remotely means practicing medicine differently. You'll use your full scope, strengthen broad clinical skills, and build genuine relationships with patients, families and colleagues - all while being backed by an experienced and collaborative team.
🌺 About Weipa Obstetrics Services
In Weipa, obstetrics feels personal. Connected. Meaningful!
Obstetrical services in Weipa play an important role in supporting women to birth closer to home, where clinically appropriate, reducing the need for families to relocate away from community during pregnancy and birth.
This service is deeply valued by the local community and provides an incredibly rewarding environment for clinicians who are passionate about rural and remote maternity care.
You'll work closely with:
- Fellow Rural Generalists and Senior Medical Officers
- Midwives
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners
- Allied Health and visiting specialists
Together, the team delivers care that is safe, connected and centred around women and families.
