The role provides strategic leadership for the Southern Sector Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce, overseeing their scope of practice and ensuring Indigenous Primary Health Care knowledge is embedded across management and community development.

Under Section 25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement that the person appointed to this role must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
