About the work unit / facility
Building, Engineering and Maintenance Services (BEMS) sits within Facilities, Infrastructure and Support Services and manages the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of all built infrastructure and engineering systems across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. The team includes a diverse mix of professional, operational, administrative, and trade staff—covering electrical, refrigeration and air‑conditioning, electronics, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting—supported by both in‑house and contracted resources. BEMS delivers a comprehensive Planned Preventative Maintenance program, ensures statutory compliance, and provides a 24‑hour breakdown and emergency maintenance service to keep the health service operating safely and reliably.

Competitive salary and benefits:
We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.
- Salary range: $76,530 to $90,332 p.a. (HBEA9-HBEA6)
- 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
- On-call and shift allowances (where applicable)
- District Allowance, Tool Allowance, Attraction and Retention Allowance, and the Skill Infrastructure Delivery and Maintenance Allowance

About your opportunity
- Carry out electrical work and Planned Preventative Maintenance in line with all relevant legislation, Australian Standards, and Codes of Practice.
- Support the Trade Coordinator (Electrical) with projects and maintenance tasks, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Provide guidance to trade assistants and apprentices, promoting safe work practices and correct use of protective equipment.
- Work collaboratively with THHS staff, government agencies, and contractors to complete tasks with minimal disruption to patients and staff.
Requirements:
- Possession of a current Queensland Electrical Workers Licence.
- Participation in the on‑call roster is required.
- This role requires the operation of a Class C motor vehicle; applicants must hold the appropriate licence.
