Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker - Advanced (Identified)

In this meaningful role, you will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit by providing culturally safe, respectful and community informed care. You will work closely with clinicians, Elders, families, carers and community organisations to help ensure consumers feel supported, understood and culturally safe throughout their rehabilitation journey.

About the role

• Provide culturally appropriate guidance and assistance in assessment and treatment planning. 
• Support and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, families and carers throughout their care and recovery journey
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations and other key stakeholders

Your work will strengthen cultural safety, support recovery focused care, improve engagement, and contribute to better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing secure mental health rehabilitation services.

• Base salary: $77,342 to $106,358 per annum

Requirements

Under s25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

You will hold one of the following qualifications:

For appointment between HWF3.1 – HWF3.5:

• Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
• Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, OR
• Certificate IV in Mental Health, OR
• Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs

For appointment between HWF3.2 – HWF3.7 (or HWF3.8 limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23):

• Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
• Diploma of Mental Health, OR
• Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs

Suitable applicants without the Certificate IV may be appointed temporarily at the HWF3 (no qualification) level, with support to complete the required qualification under HR Policy G10 (SARAS). Once completed, the appointee will progress to a permanent HWF3.1.
