About this role
Make a real difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults, families and communities
In this meaningful role, you will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing acute mental health care by providing culturally safe, respectful and community‑informed support. You will work closely with clinicians, Elders, families and community organisations to help clients feel understood, supported and connected throughout their care journey.

- Base salary: $77,342 to $106,358 per annum
- Annual leave: 4 to 6 weeks per year with 14%-17.5% leave loading

About the role
As a key member of the Cultural Assessment and Liaison Team in the Adult Program Area, you will:
- Provide culturally informed guidance in assessment and care planning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Support and advocate for consumers, families and carers throughout their care journey
- Strengthen connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations and key stakeholders
- Contribute to cultural education and provide cultural supervision across the Mental Health Service Group
Your work will strengthen cultural safety, improve engagement, and support better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults accessing mental health services.
Requirements
Under s25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
You will hold one of the following qualifications:
For appointment between HWF3.1 – HWF3.5:
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, OR
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, OR
- Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs
For appointment between HWF3.2 – HWF3.7 (or HWF3.8 limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23):
- Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, OR
- Diploma of Mental Health, OR
- Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs
