Peer Worker MHAIS
Join our Lived Experience team at West Moreton Health This role will work within West Moreton Mental Health Addiction Custodial Health and Statewide Services (MHACHSS) Mental Health Adult Inpatient Service (MHAIS) and has flexible work arrangements.
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues, or a personal lived/living experience of caring for a person with mental health and/or substance use issues.
Temporary Part-time opportunity for up to 12 months – 64 hours per fortnight!

About the role
The role of Peer Worker (Mental Health) is to assist consumers, carers, and families from a multicultural background with a mental illness to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework while utilising a lived experience of mental health issues to work towards achieving the best outcomes for consumers.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to share lived experience of recovery to assist consumers and staff within the role.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with consumers, carers, families, the community, health professionals and all service providers, while promoting an understanding of mental health.
- Demonstrated ability to relate, empathise with, be aware of and see issues from the perspective of a consumer, their carers, and families.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to show proactive and effective communication skills by actively listening, conveying consumer's requirements clearly and fluently, displaying appropriate empathy and adapting style accordingly.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to assist with the planning and delivery of psycho education programs and groups to mental health service consumers.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
