About the Opportunity
The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Trainee program creates an opportunity for participants to reach their full potential via a supported on the job training with localised education and meaningful employment.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Trainee (Identified) are supported with full time employment, tailored education plans to suit individual learning needs, suitable rostering to support engagement with program education and wrap around, culturally safe support to continue through the program's various academic milestones.
This is a fixed term temporary full-time role, up to 18 months.

These roles support the provision of culturally safe and responsive clinical and primary health care interventions to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Competitive salary and benefits
We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.
- Salary range: $2569.40 - $2640.30 p.f. (HWF1)
- Locality allowance
- 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
- Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available
Requirements
- This is an identified position - it is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- Mandatory Enrolment in Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care. On completion of the required qualification within 18 months from date of commencement, subject to successful performance, will be offered direct appointment to an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker HWF2 role upon receipt of the mandatory qualification.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease risk role.
- Pre-employment checks will be conducted.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural determinants of health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
- Demonstrate cultural knowledge and respect, of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and community customs and protocols.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including the motivation to actively pursue acquisition of new knowledge and skills. The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, communicate and advocate with influence.
- Ability to commit to the learning and study requirements associated with the program. This includes planning and organisational skills to effectively manage time and prioritise workloads to achieve the required learning outcomes.
